Why reading measure matters

A line that runs too wide makes the eye lose its place on the way back to the left margin. Capping body copy at roughly 60–75 characters keeps the reader's eye tracking smoothly line to line.

The default

This container ships at 68ch by default — wide enough for comfortable reading, narrow enough that it never stretches awkwardly on a large desktop viewport.

  • Override via the maxWidth prop for a brand's own token.
  • Headings, links, and lists all inherit sane defaults out of the box.

Using the Max-Width Prose Container component

Install it with velocityx add prose-container. The CLI writes the source straight into your project — no runtime dependency, no registry lock-in, and it themes itself from the same primary-*/accent-* scale as the rest of the library.
